INTRODUCING THE HERITAGE COLLECTION

Saturday 07.16.16

Whiting & Davis is the oldest handbag company in the U.S., and 2016 marks 140 years in business! To celebrate, we have designed a very special Heritage Collection of limited edition handbags for Fall 2016 that we are very excited to share with you. Based on some of our favorite vintage and antique Whiting & Davis designs from decades past, the Heritage Collection is comprised of five elegant yet contemporary new styles: the new VICTORIAN STRIPE Crossbody BagCHANDELIER Crossbody BagDECO CRYSTAL POINT Evening Bag, SKYLINE Crossbody Bag, and my personal favorite, the POIRET POUCH.

To celebrate our 140th Anniversary and the launch of this exciting new limited edition collection, we recently hosted a retrospective exhibit at Lady Mendl's Tea Salon in NYC, where editors, bloggers and friends gathered to admire dozens of our most iconic antique and vintage designs alongside the new Heritage Collection handbags they inspired. It was a thrill to host such a fun, fashionable event, and to demonstrate the ways we have evolved these classic styles for today's contemporary taste and lifestyle (for starters, they all fit the iPhone 6 Plus!). We're so excited to celebrate this huge milestone and hope you enjoy the new collection. Cheers!

THROWBACK THURSDAY

Thursday 08.27.15

Because it's a Thursday, we're throwing it back to the Roaring Twenties when we made this Princess Mary bag, which currently hangs in our design room. Can't you imagine it on the arm of a 1920s flapper beauty, fringe swinging every which way? It certainly fits right into my imagination of a glamorous Great Gatsby party scene. The intricate metal mesh on this beautiful antique bag looks so fine and delicate yet here it is, still going strong nearly a century later! And how gorgeous is the chainlink detailing at the bottom? What a stunner!

VINTAGE INSPIRED

Tuesday 06.16.15

In the long history of Whiting & Davis, there have been many types of metal mesh. Among others in our archives, you'll find ring mesh bags from the 1890s, super fine Dresden mesh handbags from the 1920s, alumesh purses in the 1940s, and, one of my personal favorites, large 8mm tile mesh styles from the 1960s. Our design team has reintroduced this large tile mesh in a few new designs including our Brandy Crossbody Bag (pictured) and Brandy Convertible Bag, as well as our two new Mega Mesh styles (featured in my last blog post). I absolutely love the stripe of raw brass 8mm tile mesh down the center of this edgy pyramid mesh bag. To me, that subtle hint of inspiration evokes all the right vibes of vintage style and rock n roll. Pair it with a leather moto jacket and sunglasses. Would also be amazing with a vintage concert tee and ripped jeans or cut offs (hello festival style). I can imagine all kinds of rocker chic looks for this bag, and will hopefully wear them all. It even makes a stylish clutch for something more upscale. LOVE.
